How the board works
- Words this year. Every step of a word this calendar year (1 January to 31 December, UTC) counts as one 👣: met for the first time, then “familiar”, then “mastered”. Each player learns their own level’s words, so a five-year-old and an adult race fairly. A tie goes to the player who played on more days, then to whoever got there first.
- Fair at every age. Each player learns their own words — a first reader the first hundred words, an older child a bigger set or the week’s spelling list — so the board compares effort, not age.
- Only by choice. Nobody is on the board until they press “Join the board” at the end of a tower or in the game’s word book. That sends a made-up nickname (such as “Brave Fox 27”), a flag and this year’s words. Nothing else: no name, no e-mail, no account.
- The flag is the country of the player’s internet connection. “Hide my flag” in the game’s Settings takes it off.
- Leaving. “Leave the board” in the game’s Settings deletes the player’s rows. Each year’s board is deleted a year after it ends.
- On trust. The board takes each player’s device at its word; impossible numbers are refused.
The board is on the website only for now: the Chrome extension links here but does not join. More in the privacy policy.
